— 1950-1956 Lindy at KGV

March 1, 1950 — my father took this adorable photo of Lindy going to KGV when we were still living in Cameron Road ❤️

I don’t know if Lindy started there the year she turned 11, which was 1950, as most new intakes joined in September of the year they turned 11. I don’t think this was the start of the school year in March so perhaps Lindy joined in September 1949, when she was 10?

She certainly did well, both in her scholastic work and in the sports side of things for Upsdell, her house.

Lindy with her friends at KGV …

Lindy was such a valued team and class member that she was made a sub-prefect when in Lower Six and then she was a prefect when in Upper Six.

One thing for sure, Lindy went to a whole lot of fun things at KGV in the evenings, something which wasn’t there when I was at the school. Looked like my mother organised fashion shows with the pupils as models …

The audience wating for the fashion show to start – dad and me sitting in the front row in those nippy green stackable chairs! Ugh!!  (Click to enlarge)

I saw a very interesting (well, to me it was “unusual” ?) photo of Lindy and the rest of the Upper Six pupils doing the Palais Glide ?

Now I must admit I have never heard of that type of dance so I just had to google it to see what it was all about and this is what I found …

Palais Glide as the latest hit in 1938, together with the Lambert Walk (which, strangely enough, I remember)!!

However I doubt very much that the kids in the senior year were doing the groovy Palais Glide from 1938, rather they had to do the Scottish dancing version of it ?
