July 1959 VRC at Deep Water Bay
We used to go to the VRC quite often during the summer as the water at Deep Water Bay was always nice and clean to swim in. Sadly by the late 1960s & early 1970s it all changed and there were disgusting items, like poop, floating about. Yuck! ?

Winter 1962-1963
Alpha and Brutus had TWELVE puppies and both my mother and I were up during the night to feed the little pups to make sure they all survived as not all could suckle from Alpha’s teats 😮
They all survived and Willem actually sent one back to Amersfoort to his parents!

1963 Sailing with Sheila Stead on Pisces
Sheila Stead was a teacher at KGV – she never taught me but since I was a member of the Yacht Club and I knew she was looking for a crew on her Enterprise boat (called Pisces), I put my name forward and was chosen! I crewed for her for about 3 years and had a ball!

Ma Kent (aka Betty) was one of mom’s sales ladies who was a close family friend together with her husband Lol and they’d often invite us to go out on their boat during summers.

Christmas 1964
Christmas was always a fun time and my parents always spoiled me with wonderful gifts! That Christmas they gave me four matching Samsonite cases as we were going on leave the next year and I think mom wanted me to look chic when I boarded the ships ?

My father must have got a new movie camera as he was fooling around with it, making me disappear and reappear with Alpha in my arms!! Also took a clip of us having a BBQ in the garden with Jenny, an old school friend of mine ?
